New Delhi, May 24. Gold's shine continues to draw investors. Prices in India have climbed to historic highs in 2026.

Record rates

On May 24, 24-carat gold in Delhi was around Rs 15,414 per gram and 22-carat about Rs 14,680 per gram. During May, 24-carat gold also touched the Rs 16,000-per-gram mark. In rupee terms, the price is nearly double its level in early 2024.

Why gold is rising

Experts say the international spot price is around $4,750 per ounce. Global uncertainty, central-bank buying, and a softer rupee have pushed domestic prices higher.

The RBI's buying

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) too has been a steady buyer, accumulating 822 tonnes of gold in its reserves by early 2026 — reflecting a national policy of reducing reliance on the US dollar. Amid rising prices, jewellery buyers are advised to be cautious and investors to focus on diversification.
