Gaza, May 9. An Israeli drone struck a motorcycle west of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza on Friday, killing one Palestinian.

Strike amid peace efforts

The strike came as Turkey's foreign minister and a Hamas official were holding talks on peace efforts. Ankara has been playing a mediating role in recent months. According to Turkish sources, "every strike weakens the dialogue".

Trump plan's second phase stalled

The second phase of US President Donald Trump's 20-point comprehensive peace plan remains stalled. The first phase included the October 2025 ceasefire, but Israel has continued to push past the "Yellow Line" inside Gaza, citing the need to address "active threats".

Deaths despite the truce

According to human rights groups, at least 850 Palestinians have been killed and 2,433 injured since the October 2025 ceasefire took effect. Most casualties have been reported in northern and central Gaza.

Hamas's position

Hamas has repeatedly demanded a permanent ceasefire and full Israeli withdrawal. It has said the release of remaining Israeli hostages will only happen as part of a complete agreement.

International response

The United Nations, European Union, and several Arab countries have called on Israel to pull back behind the Yellow Line and fully implement the ceasefire. The Trump administration is expected to step up pressure on Tel Aviv this week.
