India, May. India's millet market is booming. According to a May 2026 SkyQuest Technology report, the global millets market will grow from $13.8 billion in 2025 to $30.67 billion by 2033.

10.5% annual growth

The CAGR of 10.5% is the fastest in any grain category. India is the world's largest millet producer, and the government had declared 2023 the "International Year of Millets".

An explosion of products

Millet-based biscuit variants are showing 25% growth in the Indian market. Major companies like Britannia, Parle, and ITC have launched new millet-based categories. Startups have moved millets beyond "health food" into the mainstream.

Lifestyle hybrids

Designers and brands are launching millet dosa, rotis, millet bowls, energy bars, and millet pasta as urban-lifestyle hybrids. Concepts like Mumbai's "Millet Café" and Bangalore's "Odisha Ragi Company" are going viral on social media.

Sustainability and health

Millets need less water, are gluten-free, and offer high fibre and protein. Their popularity has grown rapidly among diabetics, gluten-sensitive consumers, and vegetarian athletes.

The "fewer-but-better" philosophy

The made-to-order, "fewer-but-better" philosophy is emerging as the biggest 2026 shift in Indian eating and fashion. It is not limited to food — clothing, beauty products, and home goods are caught in the same trend.

Corporate cafeterias shift

Indian corporate catering menus increasingly feature millet bowls, vegan curries, and protein-rich salads. IT firms like Infosys, TCS, and Wipro have launched "health bowls" in their cafeterias.
