New Delhi, May 21. The biggest event of the year for football fans is near. The FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off on June 11 and the final will be played on July 19.

Three hosts for the first time

It will be the first time the World Cup is co-hosted by three nations — the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will be played across 16 cities with 104 matches in all — the largest format in World Cup history.

A historic halftime show at the final

The final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19 will feature a halftime show for the first time. K-pop band BTS, pop icon Madonna, and Colombian singer Shakira will perform — a unique blend of sport and music.

Where India stands

The Indian football team did not qualify for this World Cup. The side finished third in its qualification group, winning only one of six matches. Even so, enthusiasm for the World Cup is high in the country, with fans gearing up to back their favourite nations.
