Global, May. National Geographic's "Best of the World 2026" list has captured the shifting trends in global wellness travel. The dominant 2026 theme is "nature immersion".

Iceland on top

Glacier swims, geothermal pools, and natural hot springs lead the year's wellness travel agenda. Iceland's famous Blue Lagoon and other thermal lagoons remain top wellness destinations. Visitors take mineral-rich dips to ease skin conditions.

Seoul — capital of beauty

South Korea's capital has been named "global beauty capital" this year. Itineraries now feature "glass skin" facials, micro-needling, and scalp analysis. K-Beauty's global influence has now reached a $20 billion market.

Costa Rica — longevity tours

Costa Rica leads the "longevity travel" trend focused on extending healthy lifespan. The Nicoya Peninsula — one of the world's five "Blue Zones" — is particularly popular; people there commonly live to 90+.

"Digital detox" stays

Yurts, pods, shepherd's huts, and cabins with zero Wi-Fi are emerging as preferred 2026 stays. The Scottish Highlands, Swiss Alps, and New Zealand's South Island have seen surging demand for digital-detox retreats.

Ayurveda revival in India

Ayurveda tourism in India has also bounced back strongly. Kerala's traditional Panchakarma therapy is highly popular with international visitors. Yoga retreat bookings in Rishikesh are up 35% over last year.

The future of travel

The global wellness economy is projected to cross $6 trillion in 2026, with wellness tourism's share at $1.4 trillion. Bloomberg notes that the India-Japan-Thailand "Asian Wellness Triangle" is rising rapidly.
