Kolkata, May 4. A new chapter has been written in West Bengal's political history. In the assembly election results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cleared its path to form a government in the state for the first time, winning 206 of the 294 seats.
A first in 46 years
The win ranks among the most significant achievements in the BJP's 46-year history. According to political analysts, it is the party's most decisive state-level victory since 2014, as Bengal had long remained beyond its reach.
Mixed picture across regions
In results declared in the same round, the BJP retained power in Assam for a third consecutive term, while its coalition returned to office in Puducherry. The outcomes have further strengthened the party's grip on national politics.
