Barcelona, May 10. Barcelona retained their La Liga title with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday. It is their 29th La Liga title and their second consecutive under coach Hansi Flick.

First-half story

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, finding the bottom corner with his left foot off a Pedri through-ball. Ferran Torres made it two in the 41st minute to seal Barcelona's grip on the match.

A trophyless Real Madrid season

Real Madrid finished the season trophy-less. Xabi Alonso was sacked mid-season; successor Álvaro Arbeloa took over but could not reverse the slide.

Champions League disappointment too

Real exited the Champions League quarterfinals to Bayern Munich and were knocked out of the Copa del Rey round of 16 by Segunda División side Albacete. In the club's 124-year history, such seasons are rare.

Barcelona's golden era

Under Hansi Flick, Barcelona have won La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup, the Copa del Rey, and reached the Champions League semifinal this year. The combination of 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, the young Pedri and Gavi, and veteran Rashford is delivering a new golden age.

What's next

Barcelona's focus now turns to the Champions League final on May 30 in Munich, where they will face Manchester City who defeated PSG in the other semi-final.
