Chennai, May 10. Chennai Super Kings' young batter Urvil Patel equalled the IPL record for the fastest half-century by reaching fifty in just 13 balls against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday.

A blazing 65

Urvil Patel scored 65 off 23 balls (2 fours, 8 sixes). His innings included four consecutive sixes off Zaheer Khan — the most expensive over of the match at 28 runs.

Equal of 2023 record

Urvil matched Yashasvi Jaiswal's (2023, Rajasthan Royals) IPL record for the fastest fifty. The record was previously held by Suresh Raina for over a decade.

First time since 2019

CSK beat LSG by 5 wickets, the first time since 2019 they successfully chased a 180+ target. It was CSK's third consecutive win and almost guarantees their playoff slot.

Urvil's journey

The 22-year-old Urvil Patel is a young batter from Gujarat, picked up by CSK for ₹5.4 crore at the 2025 mega auction. Notably, he was the highest strike-rate batter (185) in the 2024 Ranji Trophy.

MS Dhoni's role

After the match Urvil said, "MS bhai told me to play fearless, trust my strengths. Without his guidance this wouldn't have been possible." Dhoni himself scored an unbeaten 28.
